Nicknamed the queen of rock for decades, singer Rita Lee, 74, surprised by saying in an interview that she considers that name “tacky”. That’s what she revealed to the digital edition of Rolling Stone Brasil.
“I like being called the ‘patron saint of freedom’ more than the ‘queen of rock’, which I find a bit tacky”, she shot before talking about an exhibition in her honor that took place at the Museum of Image and Sound. “The expo was beautiful, the work of three beloved children. There was a space for anyone who wanted to write a little note for me and I’m still reading it,” she said.
Happy to be a woman, Rita says that nowadays, even in the country we live in, “the female world is very interesting, complex and crazy”. She even gives advice to other people. “We have conquests ahead of us and little by little we are taking the power to which we are entitled. If I am to be reincarnated again here on Earth I will want to be a woman, otherwise I will be born a hermaphrodite in a place where there is no prejudice or scumbag politicians.”
Last year, Rita was diagnosed with cancer after undergoing tests at the Albert Einstein hospital in São Paulo. She and her husband, musician and composer Roberto de Carvalho, published a photo in which the artist appeared sitting in a garden, next to a swimming pool.
In April of this year, when talking about his mother’s recovery, singer and guitarist Beto Lee revealed that she had nicknamed the lung tumor “Jair”. “That’s Rita”, said Beto, in a publication on social networks.
The singer and songwriter was treated for lung cancer, according to her family, with good results. She underwent radiotherapy and immunotherapy sessions.
