Costner follows in the footsteps of American geologist Ferdinand Vadevir Hayden, whose 1871 expedition resulted in the creation of Yellowstone National Park.
Kevin Costner stars as a rancher in the TV series Yellowstone, but his passion for Montana’s national park—and its incredible history—goes beyond his on-screen role.
In celebration of his role, as well as the 150th anniversary of Yellowstone National Park, the actor explores the park’s beauty, wildlife and origins in his new Fox Nation docu-series Yellowstone One -Fifty’, which he says he was inspired by after learning how the park came to be in 1872.
“We take a lot for granted, but because people took a lot of risk, we all now have richer lives,” Costner told People magazine.
Costner follows in the footsteps of American geologist Ferdinand Vadevir Hayden, whose 1871 expedition resulted in the creation of Yellowstone, the world’s first national park.
“This was a time in America when all people cared about was what they could get out of the land, what they could get out of it,” Costner explains in the documentary’s first episode. “But these pioneers came up with a whole new idea – a new way to value land. I want to see what they saw. I want to see what changed them.”
