Mendoni: “Given the architectural and historical value of the buildings, the goal of the interventions is to highlight their architectural and historical value”
The strategic plan of the Ministry of Culture and Sports for the utilization of the former royal estate of Tatoi is progressing according to the planning and timetable for the modernization of the infrastructure networks, alongside the restoration of the valuable building stock. As stated in today’s announcement by the Ministry of the Interior, six individual infrastructures – water supply, firefighting, irrigation, sewage and sewage treatment, electric power and telecommunications – are concerned with the final study for the infrastructure networks, which was approved by the Central Council of Newer Monuments. The KSNM also gave a positive opinion on the restoration studies of the new Voustasios, the Hippostasios and the Refuge, as well as the accessibility study of the now restored Forester’s House, which will house the information and information center for visitors about the history of estate.
As the Minister of Culture and Sports Lina Mendoni stated: “The restoration and promotion of the building stock, in the historical core of Tatoi, is one part of the promotion and utilization of the monumental ensemble. The creation of network-level infrastructures, which will ensure the good operation and protection of the Estate, serve a modern and sustainable development model, which is the second, but equally important part. In cooperation with co-competent ministries and with other public bodies, which have the necessary know-how, we proceeded to prepare the necessary studies for fire protection, water supply, biological purification, electricity supply and telecommunications, which are a prerequisite for the creation of a modern, clean and safe environment for the operation, promotion and development of the Estate, based on the data generated by the new uses, which will be accommodated in the existing building stock. The restoration operations on the Tatoi buildings, to accommodate recreational and educational uses, are progressing according to the timetables we have set. These buildings include the Stables – one of the oldest buildings of the production unit, which is inextricably linked to the rural character of the estate – and the Refuge, a building that carries important historical memories. Given the architectural and historical value of the buildings, the goal of the interventions is highlighting their architectural and historical valuethrough the preservation of their authentic morphological and typological elements”.
