Another important distinction was won by Greek tourism on the sidelines of the International Tourism Fair WTM in London, where Greece and EOT participated with an impressive stand and 44 co-authors, promoting the beauties of our country and its authentic hospitality throughout the world.
The Greek islands received the gold award, among 10 nominations from around the world, in the awards of the renowned British tourist magazine Wanderlust. Our island country came out first in the category of “Most Desirable Destination” with the second and third prize being awarded to the Azores and Sicily respectively.
The golden award was received by the Secretary General of EOT Mr. Dimitris Fraggakis, who is in London with the Minister of Tourism Mr. Vassilis Kikilias, making a number of contacts to further strengthen the largest tourist market in terms of number of visitors to our country.
The meeting of Mr. Dim was particularly positive. Frangaki with his British counterpart, CEO VisitBritain Ms. Sally Balcombe, who gave warm congratulations to EOT because “Greece was the first country to” open “and return so quickly to the tourism market after the pandemic.”
Receiving the award, the Secretary General of EOT said: “I feel very happy to be here today at Kensington Palace. The Wanderlust Magazine Awards are one of the most important in the tourism industry. I am very proud of the first prize that the Greek islands won and it is my honor to receive it on behalf of EOT. And I want to thank the readers of Wanderlust who voted for Greece! It is a confirmation of the excellent work that has been done in tourism by our country, during the last two difficult years of the pandemic. I dedicate this distinction to all tourism professionals. The businessmen, the workers in the industry and in general to all those who, with hard work, managed to keep Greek tourism standing in the biggest crisis in its history “
