Drew Barrymore Says He Doesn’t Give Gifts to His Daughters for Christmas

by

Actress and presenter Drew Barrymore is a different mother who does not follow what is often represented in films about Christmas: scenes of the family unwrapping various gifts under the tree.

During an interview with the newspaper Entertainment Tonight, Barrymore said that he always takes his daughters on a trip at this time of year. “I don’t give them gifts, which I think at their age, they don’t love, but I say, ‘I think we’ll remember the place and the pictures and the experience and that’s what I want to give you,'” he explained.

Despite this, the actress reflected that she does not think she is a strange and rigid mother. “They get a lot of things throughout the year, so I’m not like a cold mother who says, ‘You won’t get any presents!’ I just feel like a better gift would be a lifetime memory. I’d rather that than a dollhouse or something,” she completed the star of “As If It Was the First Time” (2004).

However, during the Covid pandemic, she did not follow this rule and gave gifts to her daughters Frankie, 8, and Olive, 10, from her previous relationship with Will Kopelman. And she added: “That’s good because with travel plans as a gift, girls don’t complain about not liking what they get.”

As planning a trip can be stressful, the presenter said that she always tries to keep in mind that everything can change drastically and that new traditions can emerge. “I try to remind myself that a holiday probably won’t be the same 10 years from now, that your life can change and new people can come along,” she said.
