From Lula to Macron: See officials congratulating Argentina on winning the World Cup

Several presidents, prime ministers and politicians congratulated the Argentine national team and the country’s president Alberto Fernández on social media for winning the World Cup in Qatar, this Sunday (18). The Argentine representative responded to the authorities by thanking them on behalf of the players.

President-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) said he is happy for the victory of his Argentine neighbors. “Great game by Messi, who deserved a lot, and Di Maria. Congratulations players, Argentina coaching staff and my friend Alberto Fernández,” wrote Lula.

Fernández thanked Lula and said that the players and technical team achieved a well-deserved victory that was the fruit of their work, effort and commitment to the Argentine people. “Our eternal gratitude. They filled us with joy. I win Argentina and if Argentina wins, Latin America wins.”

The president of France, Emmanuel Macron, demonstrated that he has sportsmanship and congratulated Argentina, but without ceasing to praise the French team that was defeated in the final of the Cup. “Congratulations to the French national team for its career and combativeness in this World Cup. You moved the Nation and supporters around the world. Congratulations to Argentina for the victory.”

Fernandez responded to Macron by saying the players played a difficult match but the best team won. “Immense joy in Argentina and throughout Latin America,” he said. “We are happy and excited about this wonderful triumph. Long live football and friendship between peoples.”

Former Bolivian President Evo Morales called the World Cup final the most emotional of all time. “Congratulations to the Argentina national team for their third World Cup. Messi and Di María with great category gave the best joy to the great homeland of Alberto Fernández”, wrote Morales, who added photos of the team in the post on Twitter.

The current president of Bolivia, Luis Alberto Arce Catacora, also sent a message to the Argentines. You believe, you fight and you win. Argentina’s victory is the victory of the great homeland [conceito que se refere a América como uma só nação]🇧🇷 Congratulations world champion!” Arce wrote.

“Congratulations Argentina. And thank you for this joy the size of the world that makes us feel our America in the center of our chests. Cuba celebrates its victory as if it were its own,” tweeted Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel. Fernández replied: “The joy the size of the world. This is how we feel and this is how we share it with all our sister cities.”

“How beautiful football is. A giant hug to the Argentine brothers. Your joy crosses the mountains,” wrote Gabriel Boric, president of Chile, on Twitter. The representative of Argentina replied: “Thank you brother Gabriel Boric! Today, without a doubt, happiness crosses any mountain.”

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted that the match between Argentina and France will be remembered as one of the most emotional matches in football. “Congratulations to Argentina on becoming World Cup champions. They played brilliantly during the tournament. Millions of Indian Argentina and Messi fans rejoice in their magnificent victory!”
