The romantic English poet who was inspired by the Greek struggle and the American doctor who became a man in the revolution. The Philhellenes, Lord Byron and Samuel Howe are the two faces of the Greek Revolution who are presented in the 6th and last episode of the series of dramatized documentaries “1821: The Heroes”
On Friday, November 5 at 21.00, Antonis Karathanassopoulos and Spyros Stamoulis play Lord Byron and Samuel Howe respectively.
The episode presents the life of Lord Byron through his travels in Greece which was the source of inspiration for many poems. How he embraced the Greeks and their struggle, his participation in the philhellenic committees, his effort to unite the Greeks and look fair and his last trip to Messolonghi which was fatal for him but highlighted Greece and its struggle.
Respectively, Samuel Howe, coming from Harvard, did not hesitate to follow Greek fighters in their campaigns and offer his medical services and later to organize humanitarian aid. Informing America of the revolution, he manages to raise a large sum of money and participates in the organization of infrastructure in the newly formed state.
Through these two persons we talk about the selfless offering and sacrifices of many foreigners and we define what a Greek really means.
The script and direction of the separate production are by Anies Sklavou and Stelios Tatakis.
The Director of Photography is Panagiotis Vasilakis, the Costume Editor is Maria Maggira and the Scenography is Angeliki Anaktoridi.
