Before becoming the Queen of Baixinhos, Xuxa Meneghel, 58, dated the King of Football, Pelé. The presenter declared in recent interviews that the player was her first love. Their relationship lasted six years, starting in the early 1980s.
They met at a photo shoot for the cover of Manchete magazine, in which Pelé appeared in the middle surrounded by four women dressed in golden clothes, including Xuxa and Luiza Brunet. The presenter was 17 years old at the time.
“In the photo, I came out facing him, with his hand on my leg. Then everyone wanted to know who was the model that Pelé was the most turned around”, she said in an interview in January 2021 with journalist Luis Erlanger.
“[Pelé foi] an important person for me, maybe my first love”, she said in the same conversation.
In her book “Memories” (Editora Globo), Xuxa stated that initially the player was interested in Luiza Brunet, but as she was committed, the initiative did not work out.
On the same day of the photos, Pelé then invited Xuxa to dinner, but she said she couldn’t because she was underage and lived far away. The ace did not give up, and decided to call to speak with the father of the future presenter.
“The next day, my father tells me: ‘A kid just called home saying he was Pelé, imagine! I said I was Queen Elizabeth and hung up the phone on him'”, she reported in the work.
Later, they left, but Xuxa’s brother had to accompany the couple. “It was quite complicated,” she recalled.
In the book, Xuxa also revealed that initially the relationship did not go forward because she was a virgin. “He said he didn’t want the responsibility of being my first man.”
After they were apart, she revealed in “Memories” that her first time was in a car with a man her age — Pelé was 23 years older than Xuxa. “A little later, Pelé and I started dating. He was the first man,” she wrote in the work.
In September 2021, the presenter published an old photo on Instagram, taken by the king of football when they were dating. In the picture, she was 18 years old.
“Believe me, this is me, in East Hampton, USA, Pelé’s house (he took the picture). I put on a jacket backwards, a fake belly, glasses that came with a nose, a hat that he got and it stayed walking around the character’s house. ‘Louquinha de Pedra'”, wrote Xuxa in the caption of the post.
Pelé spoke a few times about dating the presenter. In the book, Xuxa said she was hurt by the former player saying that what they lived was a “colorful friendship”, and not a serious relationship. “I wasn’t warned.”
She also stated that she has “mixed feelings” when she thinks about the time they were dating, and that Pelé cheated on her many times. “He had more than one personality: Pelé, for everyone, and Dico, for me. Dico was the one who played hole with my mother, who was my boyfriend. And, sometimes, he told me [na terceira pessoa]: ‘Pele needs to leave today’. And in these [saídas] I was madly betrayed,” she said.
“It’s happened that, at parties, I’ve seen him with lipstick marks on his mouth that weren’t mine. For him, that was normal: ‘Women want to be with Pelé'”, he revealed.
Professionally, Xuxa said that Pelé influenced her to accept participating in the erotic film “Amor Estanho Amor” (1982), in which her character seduced a 12-year-old boy. “I was deceived, they said a lot of things, that I was supposed to do it like this, like that. It was the only job that Pelé made me do, because he said: ‘Do it because of my friend’. I did it and I got screwed”, he said in an interview. to Eliana’s program (SBT), in 2019, without giving the name of that friend.
For almost three decades, the presenter managed to prohibit the commercialization of Walter Hugo Khouri’s feature, which also features Tarcísio Meira, Vera Fischer and Mauro Mendonça. The film was finally shown on TV, on Canal Brasil, in February 2021.
