Chris Noth, 67, was fired from the series “The Equalizer”, which he was part of the main cast. The statement was made on Monday (20) by Universal Television and the American broadcaster CBS, where the production was shown.
Known as the Mr. Big of “Sex and the City”, the American actor has been facing charges of sexual violence against two women. Actresses Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, with whom he re-starred in the series’ sequel, “And Just Like That,” just released on HBO Max, said in a joint statement they support the victims. Noth denies the charges.
In “The Equalizer”, the actor plays former CIA agent William Bishop, friend of protagonist Robyn McCall, played by Queen Latifah. The character will appear in just one more episode, already recorded, and in reruns. The actor’s representatives declined to comment on the dismissal.
The accusations against the actor were made by two women who used pseudonyms to give an interview to the specialized magazine “The Hollywood Reporter”. According to one of them, Noth raped her in 2004, when she was 22 years old. The other claims that she was raped by him in 2015, at 25 years old.
“These stories could have been 30 years or 30 days ago — it doesn’t always mean no — that’s a line I haven’t crossed,” the actor said in response to the magazine. “The meetings were consensual. It’s hard not to question the timing of these stories. I’m not sure why they’re coming up now, but I know this: I didn’t attack these women.”
