Journalist José Roberto Burnier, 62, is about to celebrate 40 years at Globo. Coincidentally, in January, SPTV 2nd Edition, the newspaper he has commanded since April 2022, also celebrates its four-decade anniversary on the air. But are all these festive dates making the anchor nervous?

Every weekend, he does everything the same: Burnier leaves his house, close to the Rodovia dos Bandeirantes exit, and drops by Anhanguera, in what he says is “fun allied to the exercise of focus and concentration”. “Incredible as it may seem, it relaxes me. I don’t admire the landscape, I stay focused on my ride. And I only ride alone, not in groups. The principle of the bike is freedom”.
RELATIONSHIP WITH THE FAMILY – The presenter has been married since 1988 to veterinarian Rúbia, with whom he has two daughters: Júlia, 31, an actress trained at USP who is currently studying acting in New York, and Olívia, 27, graduated in business administration at Faculdade Getúlio Vargas, executive at Amazon.
The wife is the one who is scared to death when she sees her husband go out on a motorcycle on weekends. “She’s apprehensive, but she knows it’s something I’m careful about and I’m not going to let go of it,” she points out.
NO DINING OUT – Did you know that Burnier doesn’t dine out? Since the Impeachment of Dilma Rousseff, in 2016, he has noticed a heavier climate among voters, regardless of political party. For this reason, he avoids exposing himself, because he is afraid of suffering “public abuse”.
“I didn’t go out much anymore, and with the worsening of the political climate in the country I stopped leaving the house anyway. I go to Globo and come back, I’m with the family. I’m terrified of having dinner with my wife and someone talking nonsense about us . I’ve already suffered from this, so I’m more on my own, I don’t even post much on Instagram”.
SPTV AND BURNIER – A little less than a year ago as main presenter of SP2, now Burnier will be able to celebrate the 40 years of the television newscast, a date celebrated in January and which will result in a series of reports that will outline the profile of the newspaper.
Interestingly, it also has a history that is intertwined with the program itself. Burnier is getting ready to celebrate his 40 years at the station. His first appearance for São Paulo was precisely on the attraction he now runs, between 1984 and 1985.
“It was a last-minute entry, like everything else in my career, nothing was planned. Things keep happening, opportunities appear, and we have to do it”, he evaluates. “I have a long history with SP2. I did reports for a long time for him and in the early 1990s I started to replace colleagues in the studio”, he adds.
