Renatinho, 48, lead singer of the band Bokaloka, died this Thursday afternoon (5), the day after suffering a heart attack at Bar do Zeca, in Barra da Tijuca, west of Rio. GR Shows, which managed the artist’s career, published a statement about the death on social media.
“It is with great regret that we communicate the death of singer Renatinho, lead singer of the group BokaLoka, this afternoon, as a result of a cardiogenic shock due to an acute myocardial infarction”, says the note. “The samba community is in mourning and at this moment we ask for a lot of prayer and strength for the artist’s family, friends and fans.”
The singer fell ill on stage on Wednesday (4th) and had to be rescued by people from the house at the Lourenço Jorge Municipal Hospital, where he received the first care. This Thursday afternoon, Renatinho was transferred to the National Institute of Cardiology due to the seriousness of his health. “[Ele] underwent a procedure to identify obstruction of the coronary arteries,” said GR Shows.
In May, the band Bokaloka toured Europe and Renatinho fell ill. He had a blood pressure spike and a heart attack. At the time, the vocalist underwent two procedures: one to clear the aorta, which was 90% compromised, and another to place a “stent” – a kind of tube that serves to restore normal blood flow in the coronary artery.
Five months ago, the singer said in an interview with Brito Podcast that he had already suffered a heart attack in 2014.
