Former Sex Pistols singer John Lyndon wants to represent Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest with punk band Public Image Ltd (PiL)as announced today.

The ‘Anarchy in the UK’ singer, better known as Johnny Rotten at the height of punk, has penned a new song, ‘Hawaii’, which he says is a ‘love letter’ to his wife, Nora Forster, to whom he has been married for almost 40 years. Nora is currently suffering from Alzheimer’s.

PiL band are among six artists and bands competing to represent Ireland at Eurovision next May. Britain will host the competition on behalf of the winner Ukraine, due to the war in that country.

“It’s dedicated to everyone going through a difficult time in their life with the person they care for,” Lyndon, 66, said on the song’s official website “Hawaii”. “It’s also a message of hope that ultimately love conquers all,” he added.

According to Ireland’s public broadcaster RTE, the competition to choose the song that will represent the country will take place on February 3. The Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled for May 13 in Liverpool.
