Hellenes Abroad now has its own Hymn. With the music of Evanthia Reboutsika and lyrics by Lina Nikolakopoulou, and on the initiative of the General Secretary of Hellenes Abroad and Public Diplomacy Giannis Chrysoulakis, the Hymn of Hellenes Abroad was written, which was presented on the show “Social Net” with Fotis Kar. During the show, prominent Greeks from Greek-speaking organizations and associations spoke.
“From the first moment I took over as Secretary General of Hellenes Abroad and, later, of Public Diplomacy, I had a vision that the Greeks, near or far, are one. My vision was for all Greeks of the Greek Diaspora to have a point of reference, a gift and a wish from their homeland, which will keep the memory alive. I wanted this vision to be musical as well. “I shared this vision with Evanthia Reboutsika and Lina Nikolakopoulou and, at some point, Evanthia surprised me and sent me the music that excited me”, stressed Giannis Chrysoulakis, Secretary General of Hellenes Abroad and Public Diplomacy.
The renowned musician and composer Evanthia Reboutsika embraced Mr. Chrysoulakis’s vision from the first moment and quickly wrote the music. “I was excited by the idea. Greeks abroad are a living part of Hellenism. I’m glad that this took on flesh and blood. “Through my music I tried to put the nostalgia, the hope as well as the colors and the aromas of the Hellenes Abroad”, said Mrs. Reboutsika.
Lina Nikolakopoulou, poet and lyricist, put the lyrics in the language that unites all Greeks abroad, Greek, in order to complete the Hymn. “With the lyrics in Greek, we signaled the love and respect we have for all Greeks on the planet. Evanthia and I, as creators of speech and music, were entitled to leave such a trail that unites us with all these loved ones, whether we know them or not, who are branches of the same tree. All these people speak the language that is the soul of this place. So this language is claimed to be spoken all over the world. This is the wonderful thing “, underlined Mrs. Nikolakopoulou.
