Letícia Colin rules out an international career after an Emmy nomination: ‘I love acting in Portuguese’

by

Amanda’s role in “Onde Está Meu Coração” led Letícia Colin, 33, to delve deeper into the different types of addiction, be it drugs, sex or food. The actress, who was nominated for an International Emmy for actress for her character, is happy that these reflections now reach open TV, since the plot, which premiered in 2022 on Globoplay, arrives on Globo on January 31st.

To interpret the different stages of the character’s addiction, Colin visited rehabilitation clinics, CAPs (Psychosocial Care Centers) and Cracolândia, an area in downtown São Paulo that is home to many drug users. The experience was very intense for her, and she says she is “honored” to be able to tell this story.

The artist says that when she visited Cracolândia to record the 10-episode series, she realized that the space represents much more than what people know. “The interest in these places always being seen as marginalized contributes to the situation of danger and violence. We will only be able to transform when we look at these people with dignity”, she tells in an interview with F5.

At the end of last year, Colin gave life to the elusive Vanessa from the soap opera “Todas As Flores” (whose second season arrives on Globoplay in April and which is also scheduled to arrive on open TV in 2023). She says she sees similarities between the capacitist villain, who is capable of various evils against her blind sister played by Sophie Charlotte, and some politicians.

“I believe that Vanessa very well embodies various figures in our social world, important political figures. She crosses all ethical, social and moral boundaries. But I think we have in common the fact that she laughs at herself, there are moments when she has the aware of how pathetic she is,” he laughs.

At the current stage of life and career, Colin says that he is connected with other values and that, all the time, he is reassessing what is important and what is not. “I’m choosing to take more care of my health and give up things that don’t add to me. Life is about connecting with these places that make us lighter. Everyone is a little ridiculous”, she comments with a laugh.

Aware of the luck of having been able to play two characters so different from each other in such a short time, the actress reflects on the culture in the country in the last four years and comments that the period was one of fear for the entire artistic class. However, being able to “break the bubble” and internationalize national productions is, for her, an indication that the country is managing to conquer a larger space and become more relevant on the world stage.

“They’re already looking at us, it’s just that sometimes we forget. Lately our dignity as an artist has been injured. Art is very useful, and going to the Emmys has reconnected me with that. We need to reflect on what our country is all about. are living and rethink our society”, he evaluates.

Asked if she wants an international career, Letícia says she loves acting in Portuguese. “I’m very proud to be Brazilian. Our history can go very far, we don’t need to make an American film to be in the world.”
