The famous composer comes to celebrate with his audience the power of music

A celebration flooded with familiar sounds and songs of the Balkans will be staged next month at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, starring the famous composer Goran Bregovic. He will be accompanied as always by his band, The Wedding and Funeral Band, as well as an ensemble of ten strings and choirs.

The one and only concert to be held on February 6, includes his most famous moments from the traditional “Ederlezi” and “Time of the Gypsies” to “Mesecina” and “Kalasnjikov”, as well as “Ausencia” from “Underground” movie. Of course, there will be no shortage of melodies that were dressed up with Greek lyrics and became favorite songs such as “To Benzinadiko”, “Theos if it is” and “Paradektika”. After all, he himself loves our country, its history, the light and the sea and as he has said in the past “just hearing the word “Greece” makes you smile no matter where you are in the world”.

At the same time, Goran Bregovic will present his favorite album entitled “Three Letters from Sarajevo”, which contains a hymn about his hometown, about the people of different religions who live there. “Sarajevo is a metaphor for what we live in Europe today. One day we live harmoniously as good neighbors, Christians, Jews and Muslims, and the next we may … slaughter each other for this very reason”, he had said in an earlier interview.

The famous composer comes to celebrate with his audience the power of music, a universal language that unites rather than divides and manages to build bridges from one heart to another. His first professional contact with music was through the band Kodeksi, which was later enriched with new members and renamed Bijelo Dugme (White Button). This band from Sarajevo was to become one of Yugoslavia’s best known. When the band began to break up, he turned to composing music for films. His style was strongly influenced by Roma music, while retaining many of the elements of traditional Balkan music. His best-known works are the music for Emir Kusturitsa’s films “Gypsy Weather”, “Underground” – in which he collaborated with Cesaria Evora and “Arizona Dream” – where he collaborated with Iggy Pop, as well as for the film “Queen Margot” by Patrick Serault. In total he has written music for more than 30 films.

The concert will be given at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall on February 6 at 9:00 p.m. Ticket prices start at 48 euros, for students it is 35 euros and for people with reduced visibility at 25 euros.
