Beyonce: She gave her first concert in Dubai after 4 years of absence – She also brought her daughter on stage – Watch video

What came as a surprise is that the famous singer did not sing songs from her much-hyped album ‘Renaissance’

Beyoncé gave her first concert after more than four years of absence, at a luxury resort in Dubai. American music website Pitchfork first reported that the musician would perform for the grand opening of the Atlantis the Royal hotel on January 21 and invited select guests to “a weekend where your dreams become your destination.”

The invitation mentioned a “once-in-a-lifetime appearance” but did not specify by which artist. She turned out to be the famous singer, who also brought her 11-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, on stage to sing ‘Brown Skin Girl’, from Beyonce’s soundtrack, for Disney’s ‘Lion King’ remake in 2019.

What caused an impression is, as reported by the “Guardian” newspaper, that Beyoncé did not sing songs from highly touted ‘Renaissance’ album. The album in question is supposed to be a love ode to the black and queer people who stood out and pioneered the music scene. As many of her fans have noted, homosexuality is illegal in the United Arab Emirates and is considered a crime punishable by death.

Fans have long pressured artists to cancel concerts in Dubai due to serious human rights violations in the UAE. In 2019, Nicki Minaj pulled out of her Jeddah World Fest concert in Saudi Arabia after the Human Rights Foundation asked her to do so. In 2021, Justin Bieber performed at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, despite activists asking him not to.

People at the concert were asked to put their phones in locked cases, so that no footage of the event could be released. However, footage has surfaced online showing the singer being backed by Lebanese dance group Mayyas.
