Many thought that due to the good relationship the actor has with the director, the role of Bane is his. However, this will not happen
Dave Bautista’s attempt at playing Bane is over. The actor revealed in April 2021 at JusticeCon that he met with Warner Bros. about the prospect of playing a Batman villain in an upcoming film. Bautista said then: “I’m not kidding. They were a little bit like, “Wow, we’re not going to audition for Bane.” And I, for my part, was thinking: “I don’t care, I’ll play him”.
In fact, since director James Gunn has been put in charge of DC Studios, along with Peter Safran, many have thought that due to the good relationship the actor has with the director, the role of Bane is his. However, this will not happen, as Bautista confirmed speaking to “Insider”.
“I talked to James about it,” Bautista said, “but I think the direction he’s leaning is to do a general reboot of the entire universe, start from scratch. I believe that to revive the DC Universe they need to start from scratch and I think they need to hire younger actors. He has to make a plan for the next 15 years and I think he can’t do that with me. And I understand that.”
Bautista added: “I have to say I appreciate that because I don’t want to play a character that I can’t do justice to. I don’t think at this point in my career I can do Bane justice. I just don’t know if I could handle the physical part, and I don’t think I’ll be able to guarantee I’ll live long enough to plan ahead for future movies. So, I just don’t know if I can be that guy.”
