by

The Olympic champion of the volleyball team and Cruzeiro player Wallace Souza used social networks this Tuesday (31) to apologize after making a controversial poll in Instagram stories asking: “Would you shoot Lula in the face with this 12? “. The question was asked after he posted pictures of himself holding a gun at a shooting range.

Souza, who never hid being a supporter of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), said he decided to speak out because the poll generated very bad social repercussions and he would never incite violence. “Anyone who knows me knows very well that I would never incite violence under any circumstances, against anyone and especially our president.”

After numerous criticisms on social networks and members of the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), the player admitted that he made an unfortunate post on the social network. “I made a mistake and I’m here apologizing because when you make a mistake, there’s no way around it, you have to accept the mistake and apologize.”

Wallace ended the video by noting that he did not intend to incite violence and hatred. “That’s not what the sport taught me and that’s not what I want to pass on to anyone”, concluded the player, who disabled comments on the publication.

On Monday (30), the player made a series of posts on Instagram stories at the Delta shooting club, in Belo Horizonte. Among the publications he appears holding a gun and in another he asks the controversial question about who would shoot Lula in the face. The attitude was condemned by several Internet users, politicians and former athletes such as former volleyball player and Minister of Sports Ana Moser and former swimmer Joana Maranhão.
