Roberta Close has a dream. Icon of the LGBTQIA+ cause in the country, the former model wants to work with Xuxa in the reality show Caravana das Drags, on Amazon Prime. “Professionally, it would be the maximum for me. I think it has everything to do with it”, says Roberta.
There really is. Close is a pioneer in the discussion of transsexuality in Brazil, which she left in the early 1990s to live abroad. She has lived with her husband in Switzerland ever since, and denies that she ever “moved” to Europe. “I’ve always been around here, there’s no way to say that I came back here, because in fact, I never left”, she says to the F5.
Roberta says, without giving further details, that there is a documentary about her life being produced by a Colombian filmmaker, in addition to the project of a biographical film, in the hands of a Brazilian. She says she is happy with the prospect of seeing herself in two productions, but what she really wants is to work on Caravana das Drags. “It would be a blast. I’m going to try to talk to Xuxa”, she cheers.
Roberta’s dream show follows drag artists on trips across Brazil, where they face challenges inspired by the traditions of each place in search of the title of “Supreme Drag”. Xuxa even presented a project in this format to Globo when she was still in the station’s cast. She got a resounding “no” and shelved the idea until Amazon invited her. The first season has already been recorded and still does not have a premiere date confirmed by the channel.
