His German film Edward Berger, “No Younger Than the Western Front”scanned the BAFTA Awardsafter also picking up the award for best film at the awards, at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on London’s Southbank

This particular film also won the awards for Best Adapted Screenplay, Foreign Language (Non-English) Film, Cinematography, Sound and Original Score.

“Thank you for giving me the confidence to turn doubt into faith to make this film,” the 53-year-old director said to his daughter as he accepted his award. He thanked the people he worked with and his co-candidates. “It’s a huge, huge honor,” added the director.

Austin Butler

Austin Butler won the BAFTA Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of the rock and roll legend in the biopic ‘Elvis’. Butler, 31, was an early favorite for the award, along with Colin Farrell and Brendan Fraser.

Cate Blanchett

The award for best actress went to Cate Blanchett for her performance in the film Tar, where she plays an orchestra conductor who is embroiled in a scandal.

The award for best documentary went to Navalny, which is dedicated to Russian dissident Alexei Navalny, but one of its main actors was unable to attend the BAFTAs for security reasons.

For the first time, this year’s awards were held at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on London’s Southbank. The evening was hosted by actor Richard E Grant and presenter Alison Hammond.

For the first time in BAFTA history, four of the night’s 25 categories were streamed online so those in the room heard the biggest winners at the same time as the audience. There were also live musical performances by American actress Ariana DeBose, London rapper Little Simz and musician Dylan.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were among those in attendance, while Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren led a tribute to the late Queen. While four-time BAFTA winner Cate Blanchett called 2022 “a great year for women” in her best actress acceptance speech, only one woman – Gina Prince-Bythewood, who directed “The Woman King” – made it to the best director category and missed out on the award, which went to Edward Berger for ‘All Quiet On The Western Front’.

Although this year’s nominations were more diverse than previous years (the BAFTA 2020 film nominee list did not feature a single non-white actor in any of the acting categories), the four final winners of the acting categories are all white. Representation is always a big topic of discussion at awards season, following previous controversies surrounding diversity at both the BAFTAs and the Oscars.
