The DGA Awards are considered a precursor to the Oscars. Of the last 19 directors to win a DGA, 17 went on to win the Best Director Oscar
The creators of the film “Everything Everywhere All at Once” were honored by their colleagues on Saturday with the award for Best Director of the Directors Guild of America (DGA) and are now favorites for the Oscars.
The 35-year-olds Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert were competing for the award against big names in the field, such as Steven Spielberg.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart, everyone. This year has been amazing for our little film that continues, in one way or another, on its journey,” said Daniel Kwan, visibly surprised by his award.
The film, which tells the story of a middle-aged dry cleaner owner who suddenly finds herself in a parallel universe, was a big hit last year and brought in nearly $100 million for its producers. He is up for 11 Oscars at the ceremony on March 12 in Hollywood.
