For an exhibition and line of sports shoes, Louis Vuitton enlisted legends of New York graffiti. The project was launched by former creative director Virgil Abloh.

“White Canvas: LV Trainer in Residence” featured figures from the Wild Style spray graffiti era: Lady Pink, Lee Quiñones and Rammellzee entered the gallery realm after initially launching the New York graffiti movement by converting, at the end of the decade of 1970 and at the beginning of the following day, the subway wires on a moving canvas.

Present at the opening at Garage Traversi in Milan were Lady Pink and Lee Quiñones, who created site-specific murals for the show. Earlier works by the two artists are also on display, including two sculptures by Rammellzee, the multimedia artist who passed away in 2010. The pop-up gallery is the only place to buy the limited-edition sneakers.

Lady Pink and Quiñones drew from a pair of leather LV Trainers. The house’s craftsmen then reproduced them in scandalous detail at the Louis Vuitton factory in Fiesso d’Artico. The originals are displayed in a glass case. Rammellzee’s sneaker was based on a previous work by the artist.
