As reported by Reuters, the discovery at the bottom of the Giza pyramid, the last of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World that has not been destroyed, was made as part of the Scan Pyramids project, which since 2015 has been using non-invasive technology, including infrared thermography. , 3D simulations and cosmic ray imaging to visually penetrate its multi-dashed structure.

Published in the scientific journal Nature on Thursday, it said the discovery could contribute to knowledge about the construction of the pyramid and the purpose of a limestone pediment that fronts the corridor.

The Great Pyramid of Giza was built as a monumental tomb around 2,560 BC. during the reign of Cheopa (or Khufu). At 146 meters (139 meters today) it was the tallest man-made structure until the construction of the Eiffel Tower in Paris in 1889.

The Pyramids of Giza are among the oldest surviving structures and are the most famous pyramids in the world. They are located in the Giza Necropolis. The complex was built by the fourth dynasty of Egyptian pharaohs.

In addition to the Pyramid of Cheops, the slightly smaller Pyramid of Chephren and the relatively medium-sized Pyramid of Mykerinus belong to the ancient Necropolis of Giza. All three belong to the Fourth Dynasty. All together they formed an immense complex of smaller pyramids, funerary temples, Mastabs (stepped pyramids) and tombs of officials.
