Leda Nagle says she will not use the term ‘todes’: ‘I think it’s cool’

by

When interviewing Cássia Kis in October last year, Leda Nagle, 72, was heavily criticized on social media due to the actress’s controversial statements. She and the interpreter of Cidália from “Travessia” were even denounced by cultural producer Heitor Werneck for allegedly practicing homophobia. This Thursday (2), the presenter again had her name involved in a new discussion related to gender issues. The journalist said she is against the term ‘todes’ to refer to non-binary people and even called it ‘freshness’.

“I’m not going to say everyone. I’m going to say everyone because everyone means all of us. We’re all. But I’m not going to say [a linguagem neutra], because I’m not going to learn that now. But it’s hard because you don’t want to offend people either. I think fresh. Anyone who wants to speak, speaks, but I won’t speak”, he commented in an interview with the podcast Papagaio Falante, presented by Sérgio Mallandro and Renato Rabelo.

Leda went on assuming that it was very difficult to assimilate new thoughts and attitudes. “There are a lot of things that I don’t know nowadays how to say more. You don’t know how to refer to it anymore, for example. There’s the ‘denigrate’ that you can’t say. ‘Mulata’ can’t either and that bothers me a lot , because sometimes I get a little flustered”.

It is worth mentioning that the term “all” has been adopted in official ceremonies of the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), promoting the inclusion of non-binary people who do not identify with either the female or the male gender. The “e” is placed at the end of words, instead of “a” or “o”.

In April 2021, Leda even apologized for reproducing, in a live broadcast, fake news about a possible plan by then-former President Lula to kill Jair Bolsonaro, who was in government. Now in the podcast interview, Sabrina Sato’s mother-in-law denied being a Bolsonarist.

“I do not share the same ideology as Bolsonaro, but I am more conservative. I am a liberal and I like the minimum market, the free economy, freedom of expression”, completed the presenter.
