The digital influencer and drag queen Rita von Hunty, stage name of the actor and professor Guilherme Terreri Lima Pereira, 32, had her name involved in a controversy when she was announced as a speaker at the Women to Watch Summit event, which will have women in communication as a highlight. The announcement was met with criticism, and participation ended up being canceled.
Writer Djamila Ribeiro, columnist for Sheet, was one of those who commented on their dissatisfaction after the announcement made on the event’s organizing portal. “Rita Von Hunty is a drag queen, not a woman, whether cis or trans,” she wrote when questioning the influencer’s invitation. “I really don’t understand the choice of event. How can you call a man to talk about representation on March 8?”
The actor’s attitude was also questioned: “Why did Guilherme accept it when he claims to be a conscious person? Really shameful”. In response, the drag queen stated that she was unaware of the theme of the event and asked for a retraction. “This is absurd. That was not the invitation, and this post was made without reflecting any real facts. I would never accept an invitation on these terms.”
Actresses also manifested themselves on social media. Samara Felippo, Carolinie Figueiredo, Juliana Lohmann and CecÃlia Dassi were some of the names of the artistic class to enter the discussion. “I’m also a fan of the work and all the agenda that Rita Von Hunty brings to the debate. But no, right, people? Once again erasing and making women invisible! Isn’t it enough for Papa Pop giving a lecture on Mother’s Day?”, he commented Samara.
This Friday morning (3), Rita Von Hunty’s participation was officially canceled by the organization of the event. “Guilherme understands and welcomes the question that arose about the character being interpreted by a cis male artist in an event that aims to promote female protagonism”, says the note. According to the text, he had accepted the invitation on condition that he debate the historical erasure of deviant identities, commenting on the LGBTQIA+ public.
The Women to Wach Summit will take place on the 21st and will feature important women in the world of communication as speakers. Influencer Pequena Lo and publicist Ana Fontes are some of the guests.
