Michelle Obama Says She Cried for 30 Minutes After Trump’s Inauguration

by

It was January 2017 when then First Lady Michelle Obama and her husband, Barack Obama, left the government for the inauguration of Donald Trump in the United States.

However, that day was more difficult than many could imagine. In an unpublished excerpt from the podcast “Michelle Obama: The Light Podcast”, as reported by the Washington Post, she says that she could not hold back the tears at the time.

“That day was so emotional for so many different reasons. We were leaving the house we’d lived in for eight years, the only home our kids really knew. They remembered Chicago, but they spent more time in the White House than anywhere else. , so we were saying goodbye to the team and all the people who helped create them,” he began.

“When those doors closed, I cried for 30 minutes straight, sobbing uncontrollably because we had been together for eight years.”

At the time, another fact that bothered Michelle was the lack of diversity in the new government. “Sitting on that stage and watching the opposite of what we stand for on display, there was no diversity, there was no color on that stage,” she said.

The podcast is a follow-up to her second book, “The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times,” and features conversations she had with the likes of Gayle King, David Letterman and Oprah Winfrey during a six-city US tour.
