“Water Stories”is the title of the photography exhibition of the award-winning photographer and musician Dimitris Vavliaraswhich opens on March 22, 2023 – World Water Day – at 19:00 with the support of the Goethe-Institut, in the Gallery of the Institute and is organized by the EYATH Employees’ Union.

A few days before the release of his photo album entitled “Pastoral” from “Malliaris Paideia” publications, Dimitris Vavliaras, sends his own message for World Water Day, through 20 images-portraits that connect man with water. “Water is a source of life. It is outside and inside us, since we are about 70% made up of it. We have to take care of it. Let’s defend it,” says the photographer.

Dimitris Vavliaras captured faces of his area, in the Polyfytou lake, thus connecting his love for portraits, with water and the need to protect it. The photograph was taken on the occasion of the mobilizations against the construction of an asbestos landfill at the MAVE mine, a site that would lead to the definitive and irreversible contamination of Lake Polyphytos, the drinking water and the degradation of the entire area.

The “Pastorals” that will be released in the next period is an album dedicated to the shepherds mainly of Aiani Kozani, a place where Dimitris Vavliaras lives permanently, who are slowly decreasing and as it seems in the next few years they will disappear, at least in the form we knew them until now, that is, having their flocks free in the mountains.
