The Smash series being adapted into a Broadway musical. The new stage musical is based on the NBC series of the same name, which ran for two seasons from 2012 to 2013. Steven Spielberg, Robert Greenblatt and Neil Meron, producers of the TV series, have announced that they will executive produce the stage musical.

Susan Stroman will direct the show, and the music is by Marc Shaiman and Scott Whitman, who wrote the songs for the series. The premiere of the show is planned for the period 2024-2025.

The Smash series starred Debra Messing, Jack Davenport, Kathryn McPhee, and others as members of a New York theater group that put on a Broadway musical.

Steven Spielberg has stated that he always hoped that a musical inspired by the series would eventually be brought to the stage. “We now have an incredible creative team and I look forward to completing the Smash journey that began with my production partners ten years ago,” said the American director and producer.

“Since the series ended in 2012, not a week has gone by without someone asking us when they’re going to see Smash as a musical. We think we’ve come up with something that loyal fans of the show will love, but will also be exciting for people who haven’t seen a single episode of the show,” said Neil Meron.
