Two days after visiting Daniel Alves at the Brians 2 Penitentiary Center in Barcelona, Spain, Joana Sanz gave the first interview after the football player’s arrest. He has been in prison since January 20, 2023, accused of sexually abusing a young woman in a nightclub, and has regularly received visits from his ex-wife.

The model spoke by phone with journalist Leticia Requejo, from El Programa de Ana Rosa, on TV Telecinco. “I’m moving forward. Whenever I can, I go to see him to find out how he’s doing, how he’s doing and find out about him,” she commented. Joana was also asked about the seriousness of the accusation. She replied that she knew and commented that she had complete confidence in Spain’s judicial system. “I won’t judge him and that’s what justice is for.”

Joana confirmed that she filed for divorce in early March and denied that the most recent visit to the prison was for the two to talk about the division of the couple’s assets. “We don’t have to talk about money because Daniel and I have separate property, we don’t have anything in common. The only time we talked about money was at the beginning of this whole situation. I was devastated and, through your lawyer, I asked – him to find me an apartment in Paris, where I was going to work. I never needed anything from him. Each one of us always had his things and his work.”

The two met in 2015 and were married two years later in a secret ceremony on Ibiza, an island in Spain. Daniel Alves is the father of two children, a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, from his previous marriage to Brazilian Dinorah Santana. The couple split in 2011 after 10 years together.
