The unveiling of the statue of the singer of AC/DC, Brian Johnsonwere recently held in Namur, Belgium, where the English artist gave his first concert with the band on June 29, 1980.

Brian Johnson joined AC/DC after the tragic death of singer Bon Scott in February 1980, providing vocals on what became the band’s best-selling album, ‘Back in Black’.

Ahead of the LP’s release in July of that year, Johnson made his live debut with the band on the evening of June 29 at the Palais Des Expositions, Namur.

“Namur is a very special place for me,” Johnson said in a taped video. “It was the first city I sang with AC/DC and I was very nervous. So this memory will stay with me forever and now you have erected this statue. Honestly, I don’t deserve it. I thank you and accept it with pleasure.”

The statue was completed through a crowdfunding campaign started by AC/DC fans with the support of Belgian radio station RTBF Classic 21. The statue was crafted by Design Stone from Libramont. Top quality Belgian materials were used, such as bluestone, which is quarried in the country.

In the message, Johnson promised to visit Namur to see the statue in person in the coming weeks.
