‘Um Olhar do Paraíso’ actor says he would not play serial killer again: ‘Horrible’

Stanley Tucci, actor who participated in the film “Um Olhar do Paraíso” (2009), said in an interview that he would not return to live the serial killer George Harvey in the production. Asked by the newspaper Entertainment Tonight, he claims that the experience was horrible.

The actor says that he tried to leave the production, but remained at the insistence of the director of the feature. “I asked Peter Jackson why he cast me in that role. I tried out, which is crazy because I needed a job,” he recalled. “But I was like, ‘Why do you want me?’ And he said, ‘Because you’re funny.’ And I was like, ‘OK.’ But I understand what he was saying.”

He says the director explained that when a role is very challenging, it’s important not to take the drama too seriously, but rather try to bring out the best you can.

“What he meant is I wouldn’t be either, not that I wasn’t serious about it, but that I wouldn’t be overly dramatic. That I would play it off a little bit, which is what you have to do when you’re playing someone who is so awful, right? You can’t joke about that. So, you know, it’s over,” he says. “Like, the movie is over. You just have to play against it.”
