At an intensive pace and within the approved timetables the work of restoring the historic core is progressing of the former royal estate at Those. As the YPPOA informs in its announcement, 14 projects are currently being implemented, with a total budget of 57,930,540 euros. Specifically, six projects within the framework of the NSRF 2014-2021, with a budget of 9,230,540 euros and eight projects, financed by the Recovery Fund, with a budget of 48,700,000 euros.

The Minister of Culture and Sports Lina Mendoni head of the service level of the YPPOA performed an autopsy on the estate. As he stated, “the development of the work on the former royal estate of Tatoi is progressing very satisfactorily. All the competent services of the Ministry of the Interior work systematically, intensively and effectively, in order to achieve our goal, so that in 2025 the historical core of the estate will offer an important recreation and wellness center in Attica, as well as museum infrastructures that tell a part of the recent history of our country. The Directorate of Modern Cultural Heritage has already completed the transformation of the “Forest Ranger’s House” into a Public Information Center, with physical and digital exhibits inside the building, and a model of the Estate in the surrounding area. Visitors can learn about the History of the Estate and the different functions it hosted over time. The Information Center operates within the framework of the cooperation of the Ministry of Education and Culture with the Association of Friends of Tatoiou. The restoration of the Kitchen building, in which a refreshment stand and a shop are to operate, was also completed, as well as the periodic report on the work. performed on the estate. The restoration study of the Palace gardens has been approved by the Central Council of Newer Monuments, while in the coming days the restoration study of the Mausoleum will also be submitted to the Council. In the next few weeks, the projects for the construction of the infrastructure networks in the estate will also be auctioned. The projects undertaken by the Ministry of Culture and Sports are progressing smoothly with guaranteed resources and with absolute consistency in the schedule we have set.”

What projects are implemented in Tatoi?

From the Directorate for the Protection and Restoration of Newer and Modern Monuments, after the installation of the contractor, the restoration of the Summer Palace building is proceeding. The removal of asbestos elements from the building has been completed. Work is being carried out to remove the plasters and clean the joints of the masonry, in the interior of the monument. The contractor has already been installed in the building of the Old Voustasiou (Stavlos Georgiou I’), which will function as an exhibition space for the royal carriages. Its restoration work is ongoing. In the immediate future, the restoration project of Neo Voustasiou will also be auctioned.

The project to upgrade the Functionality Infrastructure Networks is progressing satisfactorily. The approval of final studies for a series of other buildings of the estate (Stable, Shelter, Tomb Guard Building, Forestry, Dairy, Seasonal Workers Building) is also in progress.

The New Monuments and Technical Works Service of Attica, Eastern Central Greece and the Cyclades is proceeding with the restoration of nine buildings: The Sturm House, the Carer’s House and its Warehouse, the Archikipouros House, the Telecommunications Building, the Parking Complex 1 and 2, the of Guides 1 and 2, after the contracting of the project in February this year. To date, cleaning and fixing of masonry work has been carried out in the buildings of the parking complex, while preliminary work has also been carried out in the buildings of the Caretaker and Telecommunications building. The restoration study of the Staff Building was also prepared.

The Directorate of Newer Cultural Heritage plans and implements the museum promotion program of selected historical buildings. The museum program includes the conversion of three buildings into museums (Palace, Old and New Buildings), with the prospect of two others (Sturm House and Telecommunications Building). In these five buildings will be exhibited the carriages (Old Voustasio), the cars of the royal family, as well as exhibits related to the agricultural production of the estate (New Voustasio), but also works of art, household goods and other items that have been found in areas of the estate (Vasiliki Epavli, Sturm House and Telecommunications Building).

The Directorate for the Maintenance of Ancient and Newer Monuments carries out four projects, in the context of carrying out maintenance work on the objects of the estate’s Collections. The two relate to the maintenance of the archival material of the Palace and the other auxiliary buildings and the other two to the maintenance and preparation for exhibition of other objects of the estate’s collections. In more detail, the archive and paper material from the grounds of the Estate are being digitized, while the maintenance and restoration of the mobile objects of the royal family is progressing, as well as the preparation of the objects to be exhibited.

The Directorate for the Management of the National Archives of Monuments implements the Digitization and Documentation projects of the Estate’s Collections. Items are unpacked from sealed boxes in the storage area, photographed and recorded. They are then documented and registered in the Integrated Information System of Mobile Monuments (OPS) of the YPPOA. To date, more than 22,000 objects have been recorded and documented, while 4,000 initial recordings have been made, which are integrated into the OPS.
