Virginia is criticized for advertising and Zé Felipe defends women: ‘Disrespecting what?’

Influencer Virginia Fonseca is being criticized on social media for photos promoting a new perfume for her cosmetics brand. Netizens are accusing her of sexualizing Muslim women for doing a shoot in a desert wearing a sheer dress with long sleeves and a hijab covering her hair.

“Do you know the meaning of hijabs? If you don’t, you should have studied about it before doing this advertising campaign”, wrote Edilene Werner’s profile in Virginia’s post.

“Hijab is not a marketing or campaign prop. The hijab is the mark of the struggle of many Muslim women in the world, including in Brazil. Be more aware. We demand respect for Muslim women and their struggle,” said a profile that identifies itself as Yusuf Abdul Malik.

With the repercussions, Zé Felipe, husband of the influencer, posted a video in which he defends Virginia from criticism and claims that a lot of patience is needed to deal with the comments. “What I see most on this Instagram is people in Arab clothes, I forgot the name. There are people who only leave their eyes out, like an alligator in water and nobody says anything”, he began.

“It’s Virginia wiping her head and people start saying she’s disrespecting. She’s disrespecting what? Oh no, for God’s sake. It’s all wrong, it’s asking God for protection and having a ball the size of an elephant .”

Muslim influencer Mariam Chami told followers that the problem with the photos is the reference Virginia used. “In this case, with the transparent dress down to the feet and which marks the body, it sexualises the Muslim woman, which is not the objective. The use of the hijab and our clothing has a completely opposite meaning. I cannot help but feel uncomfortable. seeing this.”
