Karytaina’s journey through time is reflected in the black-and-white photography exhibition entitled “We Remember – We Nostalgue”, which opens on Saturday, May 13 and will last until August 31. The exhibition is hosted at the Nikolaos Dimitrakopoulos Mansion and includes photos of the historical monuments of Karytaina – the “Toledo of Greece” – we remember the great bridge of Alpheios and its Frankish Castle as it was depicted on the five-thousander banknote, we know its Byzantine churches, but also great figures of the place.

The exhibition gathers photos from the past decades with scenes from everyday life and social life in Karytaina – faces and moments come to life through the black and white images: The Home Economics School and its students, the water that reached the village, the school holidays, but also the famous Demokles with his taxi that brought Karytaina closer to Stemnitsa, Dimitsana, Megalopolis and of course to Athens a few decades ago: That’s where many Karytians ended up taking the path of internal migration.

The exhibition succeeds in giving the visitor the image of Karytaina of yesterday and making him feel better about the place today: This happens when he walks through the alleys of the traditional settlement, where the shops of the farriers no longer exist, but in their place modern ones open for to welcome the ever-increasing visitors of Karytaina. The photographs connect the memory of the past with the present and show the continuity of time in the wonderful village of Arcadia.

The exhibition “We Remember – We Nostalgume” was organized by the Association of Karytinas “Th. Kolokotronis”, it is under the auspices of the Region of Peloponnese, it has the support of the municipality of Megalopolis and the assistance of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Arcadia.

The opening will take place at 11 am on Saturday, at the Nikolaos Dimitrakopoulos Mansion and will be followed by a guided tour of the exhibition. The keynote speaker will be EKPA professor emeritus Yiannis Panousis, while the program includes greetings from G. Adamopoulos and I. Nikoloulis, president and secretary of the Karytinos Association, respectively.

The exhibition will last until August 31 and will be open every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 1 pm.
