Sertanejo singer Murilo Huff used social media this Sunday on Mother’s Day to honor a trio of women: his mother, Zaida Huff, singer Marília Mendonça (1995-2021), mother of his son Leo, and Dona Ruth, his ex -mother-in-law. In the shared video, Marília appears playing the guitar for Leo, along with a compilation of more recent images of the grandmothers with the boy, who is three years old.
“Happy Mother’s Day to all the warrior moms in this world! Today is the day to squeeze and kiss our veinha a lot [sic],” Huff wrote in the post’s caption.
Leo was about to turn two years old when Marília died in a plane crash in Minas Gerais, in December 2021. Since then, the singer’s mother, Dona Ruth, has shared the boy’s care with Huff and his paternal grandmother.
In an interview with the Prosa do Sertanejeiro podcast, Ruth reported the family dynamics and said that the grandson knows he has a mother who is not her. “He knows he has a mommy. He doesn’t talk about it much because it’s all messed up in his little head.”
In Huff’s publication, fans said they were thrilled with Marília’s memory. “There, no, Huff! Making me cry at 9:12 in the morning”, wrote Ana Clara Freitas. The sertanejo’s own mother praised the delicacy of the post: “How beautiful, son”.
