Him Weeknd that you knew forget him, at least his name.

The biggest pop star at the moment has ditched the moniker he started off with in 2009 and rose to fame and decided to go by his real name, Abel Tesfaye.

On all of his social media accounts he no longer exists as the Weeknd but as Abel Tesfaye (Abel Tesfaye – we’ll say it until we know it).

In the past days, he had declared that he wants to “kill” his artistic name and be “reborn”.

“I’m coming to a place and a time where I’m getting ready to close The Weeknd chapter. I will continue to write music, maybe as Abel, maybe as The Weeknd. But I still wanna kill The Weeknd. And I will do. After all. I’m definitely trying to shed that skin and be born again,” he said in an interview with W Magazine.

The 33-year-old star from Canada (of Ethiopian descent) also galloped on Twitter in April, asking if he should go ahead with changing his name. His tweet garnered more than 100,000 likes.

Finally, say it and do it.

Trivia about… Abel Tesfaye: Named the most popular artist in the world this year after analyzing Spotify data.

He also held two Guinness World Records, for the most monthly listeners on Spotify, totaling 111.4 million, on March 20, and as the first artist with 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
