Benedict Cumberbatch will play folk singer Pete Seeger in the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic, “Complete Unknown”. The news was confirmed by Deadline after the screening of director James Mangold’s new film Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny at the Cannes Film Festival.
The director said that Elle Fanning is also set to star in the film.
Pete Seeger, who died in 2014, greatly influenced Dylan both in the field of music and activism for civil and social rights. He was an advocate for the disadvantaged in American society and sang in defense of the poor and downtrodden.
Pete Seeger was one of the first artists to help Dylan, facilitating his debut album with Columbia Records. He also invited the legendary singer-songwriter to play at the Newport Folk Festival (Sige served on its board).

Timothee Salamet will play Bob Dylan and is also set to sing. Monica Barbaro will play Joan Baez, one of the first major female singers to record Bum Dylan songs in the early 1960s.
Last month James Mangold confirmed that the filming they will start in August.
