After spending 10 months in a rehabilitation clinic in the city of Itu, São Paulo, Sergio Hondjakoff, 38, is continuing treatment to get rid of chemical dependency at his home in Rio de Janeiro. Famous for playing the character Cabeção in “Malhação” (1995-2020), on Globo, the actor said that he had been using drugs since he was 14, but that the backstage of the teen soap opera increased and led him to addiction.

“I started using drugs at school at the age of 14. I had that friend who already used cannabis and got along well. He got all the girls and I ended up being inspired by him. In the beginning [usar a droga] it was even good, they had advantages. I started to see myself more outside the box. But then I started using it too much”, admitted Sergio in an interview with the Papagaio Falante podcast.

The actor recalled that at the beginning of the recording of “Malhação” he even managed to control himself, but later the situation got out of his control. “The first few years I took it easy because I was always a big boy who smoked when I got home. There [na Globo], I didn’t open up to anyone, I didn’t talk to anyone, I was very quiet. In the second year of Malhação, a more cool crowd began to enter. I started to open up a little more and over the years, I got into this crowd and that’s where it started.”

Sergio said he was aware that his career had gone downhill after becoming increasingly involved with illicit substances. He also confessed to having used several of them, including crack, and that this drug made him reach rock bottom. “I ended up on crack, unfortunately. I never had major financial losses, but I lost friendships, girlfriends and almost lost my life. There is no safe amount to use this type of substance, any amount can lead to death”, he concluded.
