James Gunn revealed his favorite comic book movies. The director of the film “The Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3” was named co-CEO of DC Studios alongside company executive Peter Safran last October. In an interview with GQ magazine, he listed the film adaptations of comic books that he considers to be the best.

He gave the film the fifth place “Deadpool” of 2016. “The first Deadpool and the second are actually two of my favorite comic book movies,” the director said, praising the films and their star, Ryan Reynolds.

In fourth place was Park Chan-wook’s 2003 cult classic “Old Boys”which he said was a “reinvention of action” and ushered in “the new era of Korean cinema that continues to this day.”

In third place on James Gunn’s list is David Cronenberg’s action film “A History Of Violence” adaptation of Josh Wagner and Vince Locke’s 1997 graphic novel.

In second place was the first movie with Superman “Superman The Movie” by Richard Donner which was released in 1978. It was the film that “changed his life”, as he explained.

The top movie based on comics, the one he likes as he said from start to finish is the animation film “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse” (2018).

“The action is amazing, the thrill is amazing,” he said. “I don’t think there’s a better superhero movie out there.”
