Last year, Loach claimed the BBC had a “shameful role” in “destroying Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership” of the Labor Party
Legendary British director Ken Loach responded to rumors that his new film “The Old Oak” (The Old Oak) will be his last. Presenting his new film project at a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival, Ken Loach was asked by Deadline if reports of his retirement were true. “Day by day“, he replied. “If you wake up in the morning and you’re not in the obituary column. Day by day“, he emphasized.
Speaking to THR, the director said, “Ia was difficult to shoot a feature film again” because “functions weaken». “Movies take a few years and I’ll be almost 90“, he said, referring to the possibility of a next film. “Short term memory is going away and my vision is really bad now so it’s really hard“, he clarified.

According to the synopsis, the film takes place in a village in the northeast of England, once a thriving mining area, where a pub owner struggles to keep his shop afloat. “Meanwhile, tensions rise in the city as Syrian refugees move into vacant community homes“, it is noted.
Such issues have not been adequately explored in film and television, Loach said, and drew a parallel with the media’s depiction of the rise of Nazism in Germany.
“We have endless shows about World War II, about the horrors of Nazism and fascism, about racism, about the Holocaust. Quite rightly, we have infinite programs for this, but what they refuse to point out is that it arose out of alienation, anger, feeling cheated and scapegoating. And that’s how we ended up with Hitler, and that’s the soil in which the far right thrives“, said the British director, according to “Variety”.
“One of the points of the film is to say: This is the cause of fascism. This is where it comes from. This is its seed and it comes as an inevitable consequence of our economic system“, write down.
In Ken Loach’s film it is described how economic distress of the region it leads to widespread poverty and as hope recedes, depression and hopelessness are exacerbated by a sense of isolation among the residents, which is in stark contrast to the community spirit that prevailed when the mines had opened.
