The Crown Prince of Jordan, Hussein bin Abdullah, and the Saudi architect Rajwa al Saif were married this Thursday (1st), in the presence of several authorities and members of royal families. The ceremony took place at the Zahran Palace in Amman, in front of their families and 140 guests, including the First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden, British Princes William and Kate Middleton, as well as the King of the Netherlands, William-Alexander.

The heirs of the British crown did their best in their looks: Kate wore a pink dress by Elie Saab, in pastel tones and with long sleeves, in addition to large earrings and loose hair. William opted for a navy blue suit.

In a party atmosphere, thousands of Jordanians celebrated the union of the couple — both 28 years old — in the streets of the capital, decorated with posters of the bride and groom. As part of the festivities, the last few days saw fireworks, air shows and performances. “Hussein is your son, you are his family, and this is your wedding,” the groom’s mother, Queen Rania, told Jordanians on May 23 in a video posted on YouTube.

This kind of public display is common in Western royalty but uncommon in the Arab world, where conservative monarchies rarely share details of their private lives.

King Abdullah II, 61 years old and on the throne since 1999, designated his son Hussein bin Abdullah as heir since he was 15. Hussein received a Western education and was groomed by his father for his future role. The prince followed in his father’s footsteps. He attended Sandhurst, the prestigious British Royal Military Academy, and then studied history at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.

The future princess was born and raised in conservative Saudi Arabia, but also received a Western education. She studied architecture at Syracuse University in New York.
