Mark Hamill’s days as Luke Skywalker are essentially over. During an interview with “Sunday Morning” of CBS News, the actor said that the franchise “Star Wars” it no longer needs the hero that helped make it a global phenomenon.

Well, never say never, but I just don’t see any reason,” Hamill said of reprising his role as Luke. “Let me put it this way: I mean, they have so many stories to tell, they don’t need Luke anymore .I had my time, and that’s good. But that’s enough».

Hamill was the face of George Lucas’ original Star Wars trilogy alongside Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher. He returned to the role decades later at the end of 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and was a key character in 2017’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” That film ended with Luke’s death, but Hamill returned as a ghost in 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker” and then played a younger Luke through visual effects in “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett.”

When I read the script for “The Last Jedi,” I said, “Okay, this is for me.”“, the actor recently told Esquire magazine.

Hamill returned for “The Mandalorian” because “I was very impressed with it,” but he admits it’s “unusual” to see the final result of his facial de-aging. Lucasfilm could theoretically continue to make “Star Wars” movies with Luke and a younger version of Hamill through effects, but the actor doesn’t seem to want that.

People say, “Oh, now you’re going to be able to do a whole series with Luke after ‘Return of the Jedi.'” I said, “I don’t think so.”Hamill told Esquire. “First of all, they don’t need to tell these stories, but if they do, they could get an actor appropriate for the age of these stories».
