‘Earth and Passion’: Actress says she was a victim of transphobia: ‘I took a stab’

by

Interpreter of Luana Shine, one of the employees of Bar de Cândida in “Terra e Paixão”, Valéria Barcellos was already a victim of transphobia. This Wednesday (7), she told about the drama she went through a few years ago at the exit of a nightclub, in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande de Sul.

“I was coming back from a show and a guy started cursing me. As I’m a ‘very calm person’, I approached to fight back the attack and then he stabbed me in the back”, began Valéria with the report, which scared the presenters of the Encounter. The actress also revealed that the episode marked her. “It was a horrible thing and I went through a period in which I rethought my life a lot. I even analyzed whether it was worth going out on the street. But I didn’t stay quiet and denounced him”.

The actress said that over time she became more courageous and started to encourage other people to report cases of transphobia. She reinforced. “Girls, never stay quiet, always report. After that, many other things happened. So, giving up is not and has never been an option for me”, observed Valéria, who, in addition to acting, is a DJ, singer, writer and artist.

Valéria also commented on the emotion of debuting on television in a prime-time soap opera on Globo. “I debut with Susana Vieira, Gloria Pires and Tony Ramos! It’s a victory I see myself in that little box that I watched as a child and imagined how people fit inside. I thought that artists were such special people, that only they reduced in size to enter the television (laughs). That’s crazy! Today, they’re inside that little box”, he concluded.
