Singer Demi Lovato, 30, who had recently announced that she would like to be addressed by the neutral pronoun they/them, will revert to adopting female pronouns. In an interview with GQ Hype Spain in June, the singer mentioned the difficulties of constantly having to explain her gender-neutral identification to people.
“I always had to educate people and explain why I identified with these pronouns. It was absolutely exhausting,” he acknowledged. “I just got tired. But, for that same reason, I know it’s important to keep disclosing”, commented Demi, who revealed her identification as a non-binary person in May 2021, that is, someone who does not fully identify with the female or male genders .
Despite the change, Lovato also spoke of the difficulties that gender neutral people face in their daily lives. “For example, in public restrooms. Having to access the women’s restroom, even though I don’t fully identify with it”, noted the singer who continued with the explanation.
“It also happens when filling out forms, such as government documents or anything else where you need to specify your gender. You only have two options, male or female, and I feel like none of that makes sense to me. I think that has to change. I hope hopefully there will be more options over time.”
