The South Korean pop star, Choi Sung-bong, committed suicide at the age of just 33. He was found by police at his home in Seoul’s Yeoksam-dong district on Tuesday, June 21, 2023, according to the Korea Times. His suicide comes just two years after it was revealed he lied about suffering from multiple types of cancer and asked his fans to donate money for his treatment. He later apologized for the deception.

Sung-bong rose to fame on tvN’s Korea’s Got Talent at the age of 22 in 2011, before signing a record deal with Bong Bong Company.

He took second place in the competition with his operatic interpretation of “Nella Fantasia” by Ennio Morricone, which has garnered over 21 million views on YouTube. For this performance she was “deified” by famous stars such as Justin Bieber, BoA and Jung-Hwa Umwho. Bieber wrote on Facebook: “This is awesome. Never say never and good luck to that kid. Great story.”

Police have ruled it a suicide over a note he posted on his YouTube channel apologizing for his “stupid mistakes”. In it, he thanked his fans for supporting his career, writing: “From 2011 till now, I have received attention and love from so many people. I sincerely thank you and express my gratitude».

He then apologized for the 2021 scam: “I am truly sorry for my foolish mistakes and for those who were harmed“, wrote, among other things, the singer.
