Two of the most famous technology billionaires in the world -Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg- agreed to fight each other in the cage (as the combat stage used in MMA events is called, an acronym in English for mixed martial arts).
Musk posted a message on Twitter, the platform he owns, saying he was “ready for a cage fight” with Zuckerberg.
Zuckerberg, who owns Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, then posted a screenshot of Musk’s tweet with the caption: “Give me the location.”
“The story speaks for itself,” a Meta spokesman told the BBC. Musk then replied to Zuckerberg: “Octagon, Vegas”.
Octagon is the fenced fighting stage (reminiscent of a cage) used for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fights, a competition based in Las Vegas, in the US state of Nevada. Musk, who turns 52 later this month, also tweeted:
“I have a great move I call ‘The Walrus’ where I just lay on top of my opponent and do nothing.”
He added, “I almost never work out, except when I pick up my kids and throw them in the air.” Meanwhile, Zuckerberg, 39, trains in MMA – and has won jiu-jitsu tournaments recently. Twitter did not provide a statement when contacted by the BBC for comment.
The message exchanges went viral, with social media users debating who would win the fight, while others posted memes, including mocking posters announcing the bout.
