The undisputed – as the Times calls him – Chinese piano superstar, Lang Lang, appears on July 15 at Herodeo, in a KOA night co-produced with the Epidaurus Festival.

In his first appearance with the Athens State Orchestra, under the direction of the legendary Christoph Essenbach who was also his teacher, Lang Lang will perform Edvard Grieg’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra, followed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s 4th Symphony .

The long-awaited evening promises a huge range of emotions on the 88 keys of the piano. On the one hand, the interpretation of Grieg’s Concerto for piano and orchestra, a work that, as he says, “is full of freshness, which is why it suits the summer.” And on the other hand, Tchaikovsky’s 4th Symphony, a creation about the fatal search for happiness, for which the composer advised “if you don’t find it in yourself, feast on the joy of others and you can still live”.

“Lang Lang possesses a combination of talents and a unique personality,” comments the maestro. “Musicianship, deep understanding of the score, incredible technique. All this, together with his charismatic personality, makes him a great artist.”

For his part, Lang Lang has said of performers: “In my opinion, as performers, we never create anything in the true sense of the word. What we’re basically doing is recreating the track. But I always try to find an angle in the work that is important to me, that makes a connection between the music and the stage of my life that I am in at that particular moment.”

The concert takes place on 15/7, at 21.00 at Herodeion.
