A diamond from literally another world was unveiled today by Dubai’s Sotheby’s, which it named the “Enigma”. The 555.55-carat black diamond, which according to the most likely scenario came from space, will be auctioned in February in London.
Price
As a representative of the house announced today to journalists, in the context of highlighting the rare stone, the black diamond is estimated to “catch” at least 5 million British pounds or 5.9 million euros.
It is worth noting, however, that the auction house also intends to accept cryptocurrencies for the purchase of the diamond.
The number 5
Sophie Stevens, a jewelry specialist at Sotheby’s in Dubai, told the Associated Press that the number 5 is extremely important for this diamond, which also has 55 sides.
The shape of the diamond is based on the’s “Khamsa” palm symbol of the Middle East, which represents strength and protection. Also in Arabic Khamsa means 5.
Origin
Therefore, the number 5 seems to run through many aspects of the gem, she noted. He also pointed out that the diamond probably came from space.
“With black diamonds, we believe they are created from extraterrestrial origins, with meteorites hitting the earth and either forming chemical reactions or actually coming from the meteorites themselves,” Stevens notes.
Black diamonds are extremely rare and are found only in Brazil and Central Africa. The theory of their extraterrestrial origin is based on the carbon isotopes and high hydrogen they contain.
