The legendary DJ Fatboy Slim is coming on Friday, July 14, to the Stavros Niarchos Park Clearing at SNFCC to rock Athens
The legendary DJ Fatboy Slim, one of the most important figures of the global electronic scene of the last decades, is coming on Friday, July 14, to the Clearing of Stavros Niarchos Park at SNFCC to stir up Athens with one of his world-renowned DJ sets. The “warming up” of the evening is undertaken by the rising DJ and producer from Los Angeles HANK K.
From Brazil to China and from Las Vegas to England and the famous Brighton beach parties, the superstar DJ lands in Athens, as part of the Parklife concert series, with the most danceable big beat rhythms and a spectacular audiovisual show . The event has free entry thanks to the donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
By the mid-90s, Norman Cook, as Fatboy Slim’s real name is, was a figure to be reckoned with in the British alternative scene. Seduced as a teenager by the craze of punk, he devoted himself to the bass both as a member of youth bands and as a DJ. He rose to fame as the bassist for 80s indie underdogs The Housemartins and once the group disbanded, he returned to his student days in Brighton, slowly entering the electronic path. His first big hit was the timeless ‘Dub Be Good To Me’ with the relatively short-lived Beats International format – it reached No.1 in the UK and US Billboard Dance charts, showing the limitless potential of making something new by sampling The Clash , Ennio Morricone and The SOS Band.
In 1996, however, Norman Cook became Fatboy Slim. And he was a key exponent of the big beat trend that shook Great Britain together with groups like the Chemical Brothers. He was ready for the next big step. He did it with a huge single that was heard in every corner of the planet (“The Rockafeller Skank”) as a precursor to an album with some of the tracks that defined the 90s (“Praise You”, “Right Here, Right Now”) . The album ‘You’ve Come A Long Way Baby’ has since sold over 5 million copies worldwide, its tracks have been used everywhere (TV, cinema, video game commercials), Cook has become an in-demand star of world caliber.
The 25 years that followed found him giving some of the most impressive live shows the planet has seen: at the Great Wall of China, in front of millions at the Carnival of Bahia in Brazil, at the biggest festivals around the world, in Vegas and at home of Brazilian Big Brother. Always with a spectacular visual show to accompany him.
Rising DJ and producer HANK K started his career at the age of 17 from Los Angeles. Now based in New York, the 25-year-old DJ and producer has been on the decks with internationally acclaimed DJs including Nic Fanciulli, Chris Lake, Diplo, The Martinez Bros., Damian Lazarus. His debut single “Wrong” was released in 2022 to rave reviews, while 2023 finds him productively active with releases on Black Book, Higher Ground and his own Fajita Disco, a residency in Ibiza and appearances at major festivals such as Coachella and Wireless.
