Seneca’s Thyestes, directed by Thanos Papakonstantinou at Piraeus 260
The subversive director Thanos Papakonstantinou brings to the Greek stage for the first time, as part of the Athens and Epidaurus Festival, at Piraeus 260, Seneca’s “dark” revenge tragedy “Thyestis”. One of the darkest works of revenge and immeasurable passion, with imagery comparable to horror films, a forerunner of the revenge dramas of Elizabethan and Jacobean dramaturgy, “Thyestis” deals with the myth of the Pelopids. As he himself explained to us, he interprets the work as a doom metal tragedy, as a gruesome oratorio where bodily function plays a prominent role, actually corporealizing Seneca’s speech. In the leading roles we will see Konstantinos Avarikiotis, Antonis Myriagos, Tasso Dimas, Marianna Dimitriou and in the Dance they will be Giorgos Dikaios, Michalis Panadis and Fotis Stratigos.

Isidora Duncan, by Jerome Bell at Piraeus 260
Continuing the series of portraits of dancers that the choreographer started in 2004, the work “Isidore Duncan” by the French choreographer Jerome Bell, made for Elizabeth Schwartz in collaboration with her, focuses on the figure of Isidore Duncan. Unlike the previous works in the series, where Bell converses with the artists, here he creates the portrait of a dancer who is no longer alive based on her autobiography: by investigating her legacy and the myths that accompany her, she discovers beyond the familiar romantic figure a visionary choreographer. Considered the “mother” of modern and contemporary dance, Duncan has significant ties to Greece, which she first visited in 1903.
